Notable Historic August 21sts

1811 –  William Kelly – Born in Pittsburgh, Pa. Operated Iron furnaces. Discovered that a blast of air through molten iron removed many impurities, making a better grade of iron. (Died 1888)

1936 – Edward V111 of England became the first monarch to abdicate the English throne, because of his intent to marry an American socialite.

Rotary Last Week- Re: Eisenhower Hall

Program Chairman Jim Whaley  – Introduced  Col. Thomas Koleitz, recently returned from Iraq where he was part of a 4 man team representing W. Point. Interviewed 4th Inf. Div. Soldiers on items such as social cohesion, etc. Visited various Iraqi cities. Brought findings to W.P. to inform cadet’s on various items the team researched.

 

Visiting Rotarians – Yasuko Kawakami. Pearl Harbor club. Guest of Shirley Bonsell.

Rotary Boat Ride

Annual Rotary boat ride – Sunday, August 24. Boat leaves the South Dock at 6pm. $20.00 per person to board. A minimum of 50 persons is required to get the boat launched! Bring guests. Good weather guaranteed.

 

Farmers Market -  T.O.H. West Point – Sundays, 9:00 – 3:00 July thru Oct. Highland Falls Municipal Parking lot opposite West Point Visitors Center     

          

Rotary Tailgate Football Game

Sept. 27th is the date for the tailgate game. Josh Brewer will coordinate the exchange students. Tom Enders is working on tickets & location. New Rochelle Rotary club wants to join us for this event.

 

District 7210 Conference
