Notable August 26th In Sports History                 

1890 – The City of Brooklyn puts an end to New York City’s two yr. reign with a N.L. Pennant win. (Note: In 1898 The City of Brooklyn was incorporated into New York City, thereby becoming a Borough and reshaping New York’s boundaries to their present 5 Borough configuration.)

Also on August 26th, 1890: Annual football contests between Army & Navy began. Navy won, 24-0   (Oh well, so much for that!)


Rotary Last Week, August 19th

District Governor Bridget Auer and Pres. Roy Spells assisted Ann Horner in “pinning” new member Brian Crawford. David Green, Orange County Commissioner of Elections

was also present. Congratulations and welcome, Brian!  Governor Auer noted several important items re: The Centennial Year and upcoming events relating to this.

She also discussed the Rotary Foundation and members contributing to it. Rotary is also committed to combatting water related diseases in which children die from contaminated water sources. She discussed contributing to “Polio Plus”, and also the Centennial trip to Chicago 18-22 June 2004; Governor Auer is a charter member of the Mamakating club

and the youngest female Governor in the District’s history.

Boat Ride: Gus Fishburne reminded all that the date and time of the annual boat ride is 6 p.m. Aug 29 at $20.00 per. (The week before Labor Day). Excellent menu! Get payments in by

Aug. 21. (Yo Ho! Yo Ho! Get up the dough!)                                                 

Ben Birillo’s patriotic “Statue Of Liberty” scarf, which he donated to the club, is still on display. Get ‘em while they’re hot! See Gerry Sheehan if you’re interested in obtaining one.  (Proceeds to the club.)   Gerry also has both gray and white male and female shirts.

Anne Lennox –Trip to Constitution Island. Sept. 11th - 10:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.. Nice scenic excursion. (Prediction: great weather!)
Fishing trip – Att ‘n Anglers: Phil Brillante’s fishing trip set for September 15th. 20 seats left.

New Windsor/Cornwall club.  Annual Charity Golf Outing. Sept. 13, 2004 at the   Powelton club, Newburgh, NY. Shot gun start at 9:30 A.M. Register 8:30 A.M.
