Notable Feb. 5th  In Entertainment

1936 –“Modern Times”, starring Charlie Chaplin debuts. A riot squad is called out for crowd control on this day at the premiere of Chaplin’s film “Modern Times”, co-starring Paulette Goddard, whom he secretly married the same year. Enormous crowds gathered on Broadway outside the Rivoli Theater to see Douglas Fairbanks, Gloria Swanson, George Burns, Ginger Rogers and other stars arrive for the film’s debut.

Rotary Last Week   

Business meeting - Lots discussed, including the “Feed the Hungry” campaign. Bring your canned goods, etc. in with you this month.  Tuna, peas, dry packaged goods, such as pasta, cereal, etc, are also requested.

February 21 – There is a Rotary membership workshop at Vassar. Meet other clubs, etc.

REPEAT - PRESIDENTS MEETING – President Cathy announced that the Walden club is asking for donations for a family, which lost several members in a fire. Food, clothing etc.

Mike Moss  - The art show is great.  Still in Eisenhower Hall until March 7th.

Phil Brillante – Reports no further word from Gene Boleslovski re: get together with Florida clubs.                                                      

Scholarships – Scholarships for the high school are in the mail.

Youth Exchange Letter – Either send someone to other country or post someone. $500.00 for outbound and $1500.00 for inbound students.

Looking Ahead – CORRECTION! Dinner Theatre is on April 17th 2004 – “The Sound of Music”.  (Date mistakenly given as April 27.)    

Walden Club – Sponsoring a fundraiser on March 7 in Paramount theatre in Middletown, NY. Al Roach – 3 Irish sopranos’.

Poughkeepsie Club – A group study going to Brazil in May for 3 weeks. If you’re between 25-40 years of age and interested, shout!
