1473 – Nicolaus Copernicus was born in Torun, a city in north-central Poland on the Vistula River. The father of modern astronomy, he was the first modern European scientist to propose that Earth and other planets revolve around the sun.

Rotary Last Week        

Last week’s meeting was an open meeting. Many items were discussed, including a request from Mark Tatrow, O’Neill H.S.,  who heads the “crew program”. He seeks $2500.00 to purchase a new “shell” for his rowing team. It will be christened “The Rotary Club”.

 

Computer classes at O’Neill won’t be underway until March. The date will be announced on the Internet.    

Question - Will we host an exchange student next year?

Mike Moss  -The art show is great.  Don’t miss it! Still in Eisenhower Hall until March 7th.

Phil Brillante –No further word yet from Gene Boleslovski re: get together with Florida clubs. (It’s probably too cold)                                                     

February 21 – There is a Rotary membership workshop at Vassar. Meet other clubs, etc.

Scholarships Scholarships for O’Neill High School are in the mail.

Youth Exchange Letter – Either send someone to other country or post someone. $500.00 for outbound and $1500.00 for inbound students.

Looking Ahead – The Dinner Theatre is on April 17th 2004 in Eisenhower Hall. – (Dinner 5:00 p.m., Showtime 8:00 p.m.) Enjoy “The Sound of Music” after a good meal!

District 10 food pantry: Join the “feed the hungry” campaign. Bring your canned goods, etc. in with you this month.  Tuna, peas, dry packaged goods are also requested.

Walden Club – Sponsoring a fundraiser on March 7 in Paramount theatre in Middletown, NY. Al Roach – 3 Irish sopranos’.

Poughkeepsie Club – A group study going to Brazil in May for 3 weeks. If you’re between 25-40 years of age and interested, shout!

It’s Looking Good! – The sign in Rotary Park has been re-furbished and re-hung.
