Notable Literary January 29th.

1845“The Raven” is published. 

Edgar Allen Poe’s famous poem “The Raven,”

Beginning: “Once upon a midnight dreary,” is

published on this day in the New York Evening Mirror. Poe’s dark and macabre work reflected his own tumultuous and difficult life. Born in Boston in 1809, Poe was orphaned at age three and went to live with the family of a Richmond, Virginia businessman. Poe enrolled in the U.S. Military Academy at West Point but was expelled for gambling. Later studied at the University of Virginia.

Rotary Last Week   

This was a business meeting during which the “Feed the hungry” campaign was kicked off. Bring your canned goods, etc. in with you. Dry packaged goods, such as pasta, etc, are also requested. This will be announced on local T.V. channel 8. (Auth. Millie Ulrich).

PRESIDENTS MEETING – President Cathy announced that the Walden club is asking for donations for a family, which lost several members in a fire. Food, clothing etc.

Mike Moss was the winner, drawing a four of hearts from a fresh deck of cards. Judy Ferguson volunteered to be the “ticket seller”, filling in for the “guest” winner of the last jackpot.

Mike Moss  -An art show is great.  Still in Eisenhower hall until March 7th.

Phil Brillante – Reminded all  that Gene Boleslowski is checking clubs in the area for the possibility of  a multi-faceted getting together with Florida clubs. Possibly in February.

Looking Ahead - Dinner Theatre – April 27th 2004 – “The Sound of Music”.     

Phoenecia Club – Sponsoring a ‘Winter’s weekend in the Catskills on February 8th.

Poughkeepsie Club – A group study going to Brazil in May for 3 weeks. If you’re between 25-40 years of age and interested, shout!
