Carole Ash, Director of the Palisades Interstate Parks Commission spoke on the early years of the PIPC and led us into present day goals for the Commission.

1n 1900, the New Jersey Woman’s Federation resented cliff blasting in the Palisades and succeeded in halting the blasting. Support from Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt and J.P. Morgan assured that the Palisades would suffer no more trauma from blasting or mining. Present day goals are to convert the parks west of the Hudson. The Fort Montgomery Battle site is now in operation and the new visitor’s center opens on October 7th of this year. The Bear Mountain Inn is also undergoing major renovations, re-opening later this year.

Great program!
