Notable June 3rd in History

1944 – Allied Supreme Headquarters in England was hindered in its invasion plans of Normandy, France, scheduled for June 5th, by deteriorating weather conditions. Both High seas and gales created hostile conditions for sea and air operations. However, Meteorologists determined that there would be a slight break in the weather on June 6th. General Eisenhower,

after much thought and soul-searching, gave the go ahead for the invasion on the 6th.

Rotary Last Week

This was a business meeting: Several items were addressed, such as the “pinning” of new member Pat Flynn by Curt Brewer.

Mike Moss informed the membership that this July will be the 150th anniversary of the West Point Museum. The Rotary meeting will take place at the museum where Mike will conduct a guided tour of the exhibits.

Phil Brillante said that this Friday (May 28) will be cleanup day for the Interact group from the High School.

Cadet Ryan Edwards was unable to attend this week’s meeting to accept the Rotary Service Award due to graduation schedules, but Roy Spells delivered it personally to him before the meeting.
