Notable October 14th In History

1912 – Before a campaign speech in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Theodore Roosevelt, the Presidential candidate for the Progressive Party, is shot at close range by saloon keeper John Schrank while greeting the public in front of the Gilpatrick Hotel. The force of the .32 cal. Bullet was reduced by an eyeglass case and manuscript in Roosevelt’s breast pocket.  It contained his evening speech. Roosevelt, slightly wounded, delivered the speech with the bullet still in his body.
