Notable February 3rd In History

1953 – French Oceanographer Jacques Yves  Cousteau published his most famous novel. “The Silent World”.  Born in 1910 in France, Cousteau became an undersea explorer in a career, which saw him develop, among many other innovations, the Aqua-Lung. This allowed deep-sea divers to submerge and breathe untethered to a surface ship. He died in 1997.

 

Rotary Last Week – January 27, 2005

Safe Homes – Domestic Violence:  Michelle McKeon, Executive Director Orange County Safe Homes Project revealed how that agency is combatting violence in the home. “There is hope for those who need it”. (See brochure.)     Tsunami Relief: Kate Squicciarini will have an update on this next week.

100th Anniversary – Wed. Feb. 23 is the 100th anniversary of Rotary. Anyone available please join us in the Thayer, as this is a moment being celebrated worldwide! (Let Pres. Roy know if you can make it.)

Mike Moss, Chairman for the Christmas luncheon, indicated he would not be here for next year’s event and suggested that someone else replace him as Chairman of the committee.

District 7210 Rotary Foundation Luncheon –Sunday Feb. 6 at 3 pm - at “Torches On The Hudson, 120 Front Street, Newburgh. $40.00.

Phil Brillante –(Repeat) – Two meetings ago, Phil distributed a flyer from the Union Rotary Club, “Buy a Brick”. (Good fund raiser.)  (Idea for new park?) See Flyer.

Winter’s Still Here! – Both the Episcopal & Catholic Church thrift shops will be operating 2nd & 4th Wed. of month. (Have any worm clothing for them?

Jerry Sheehan’s Pushcart: – Jerry still plods along despite the cold and ice. He still has Ben’s Statue of Liberty Scarves as well as shirts, jackets etc.  (All proceeds to the club.) (Sorry, but

the only “Long Johns” he has are his own!

Dinner Theater. – Harold Spaeth gave an update on “Crazy for You” dinner theatre on April 17th. Price - $80.00per. Theatre at 2 pm then dinner in the ballroom. (5pm?)  More to come!
