Mr. Robert Scott , Outgoing Assistant Vice Chapter Commander, Military Order of the Purple Heart and Ms. Kathleen Mitchell, Director of Interpretative Programs, Washington Headquarters, Newburgh, New York,  spoke about the Military Order of the Purple Heart.  Mr. Scott a recipient of the Purple Heart introduced Ms. Mitchell and stated that he felt is was important that she enlighten us about when and how the creation of the Purple Heart.  Ms. Mitchell noted that it was President George Washington who established the Order of the Purple Heart at his Headquarters in Newburgh and that there is an original medal in the collection of the museum.  Ms. Mitchell recommended that we should visit Washington’s  Headquarters and take a first hand look at this important part of our history.  Another important note in that the National Headquarters of the Military Order of the Purple Heart is located at the Winter  Cantonment site in New Windsor, New York.  Our thanks to Mr. Scott and Ms. Mitchell was sharing the knowledge about an important part of America’s history that exists in the Hudson Valley, only a short distance from West Point.
