Rotary Last Week – May 12th

Don Frazer, attired in Revolutionary era costume and assisted by Nicole Pfeister of the P.I.P.C., took us on a tour of the historic Ft. Montgomery battle site. The artillery battery overlooking the Hudson and trained on what is now know as the Bear Mountain Bridge provided spectacular views of the river. One can understand why the Continental army selected this spot to stretch

a chain across the river to stop the British ships. Unfortunately, the defenders were routed by a large army, which travelled overland. However, the battle did delay the British in their attempt to reach Saratoga in time to reinforce it. They lost!  (Great job by Don & Nicole.)

Phil Brillante – Able to read Phil’s mind, it was easy to see that he was contemplating the safe handling of gunpowder, matches for cannon firing, and water supply for fires, etc. (Thanks for your safety thoughts, Phil!)
